As one of the larger Oil and Gas companies leading in the upstream space, this well-known American multinational has steadily built up over its 150 year history to a workforce of approximately 55000 professional employees, contributing towards about 50 Billion USD revenue in some 48 countries.
Like many other Oil and Gas players today they too face an unprecedented drop in the oil price coupled with a working capital cost squeeze and a mandatory reduction in the environmental impact of the global supply chain. With this as the backdrop, the executive board had recently mobilized budget and staff resources to focus on general procurement and working capital – in order to drive out substantial cost reductions in these key areas. One part of this initiative is the deployment and use of Refresh software to automatically produce UNSPSC codes for around 1 million parts, equipment and service line items world-wide.
As a starting point Refresh Desktop is now being used to read, analyse and catalogue all indirect supply chain items and services from the SAP, Oracle, Ariba and IBM ERP systems. Also to be included are direct materials from the Engineering Enterprise Information systems and PLM tools including PTC Windchill and Siemens. Once all items are tagged to UNSPSC consistently in Refresh, bulk savings opportunities for local and global procurement teams will present themselves in a renewed detailed visibility of the entire chain of supply.
