This large greenfield project will result in one of the world’s biggest smelter grade alumina refineries producing at least 2 million tons of high-quality aluminum oxide per year. Today it is a significant engineering undertaking and includes a substantial power plant as well as a large port. Companies such as Petrofac, Rio Tinto Alcan and Hatch have all been subcontracted to deliver most of the engineering technology but IT processes are mainly covered by the latest version of SAP.
In the standard SAP solution, however, in the area of master data governance particularly for materials, a large gap was identified with the need for full automated technical data standards for each newly created material. After a detailed RFP process with multiple vendors submitting their suggested software and solution sets, Refresh Server was selected to fill this gap. Key in its selection were the many large, well-known reference customers and Refresh's deeper level of automation meaning that the software does most of the work instead of the users.
Refresh is now being called at the first point of entry inside the SAP governance screen for all newly created materials, enhancing the SAP MDG process with Refresh’s built-in classification and de-duplication algorithms. Automatically proposed data standards include a combination matrix of UNSPSC, HS (CN) and ISO8000 Codes and well as in-house nomenclatures. These classifications and naming conventions will unlock savings through spend visibility and lean stock level optimization, reducing working capital from the start.
